Grad Schools
Would you like to go back to school to further your education? Then you might want to consider applying to graduate school.
Grad schools award students with advanced degrees such as doctoral degrees, master's degrees, professional degrees, and graduate certificates. Those who want to pursue graduate studies should have first completed their bachelor's degree because this is an important prerequisite for grad school applications. (1)
One of the things you should take into consideration before enrolling in grad school is whether you really need to do so and if it will be worth it in the long run. If you want to become a teacher, lawyer, psychologist, or librarian, then you will definitely need to go to graduate school because an advanced degree is needed for these careers. There are careers, though, for which a master's degree or an advanced degree won't matter much. (2) Thus, you must evaluate whether the benefits you will get from going to graduate school will indeed outweigh the costs entailed by it.
Once you have decided that you're going to pursue graduate studies, you then have to do some preparation in order for you to get accepted by the grad school you want to enroll in. Your transcript, Graduate Record Exam scores, admission essays, and letters of recommendation are just some of the requirements that you will need for application. (3)
It is your job to convince grad schools that you should get accepted. Having good scores in your GREs as well as outstanding grades on your undergraduate transcript will certainly help. If you have been working for some time already, your experiences in the corporate world may also work to your advantage.
If you have just finished your bachelor's degree and are still undecided as to whether you will further your education by getting an advanced degree, then maybe it's better to take a time off and assess your situation. You might want to work first in order to gain experience and save money. Who knows, maybe you can even convince your employer to grant you financial aid when you've already decided to enroll in graduate school.
