Masters Degree Requirements
There is no better time to get a masters degree program than now. That is because companies' codes of standards for prospective employees and promotees now include more than just soft skills like a pleasing personality or good communication skills. Nowadays, it is more important for you to have banked on your brains. And, companies need evidence for that, which will come in the form of your masters degree diploma.
So, what are the requirements in enrolling for a masters degree? Actually, masters degree requirements vary in every college or university, but here are the most common:
* Aside from the general graduate school requirements, there are also requirements for the department of the course you intend to take. (2)
* You must have completed an average of thirty to fifty bachelors degree credits. (1) (2) (3)
* The courses you took to earn your bachelors degree must have a GPA of 2.5 to 3.0 each. Courses that fare below this grade will not be considered as credits. (2)
* If you are already enrolled in a masters degree program and you would like to shift to another college or university, you can petition your new school to credit the units you have incurred from your previous school. (1) (2) (3)
* There is, of course, written and oral examinations. The content and the extent of the examinations are determined by the department where you will be designated. (2)
Alright, so you have passed all the requirements, been deemed eligible for the masters degree program that you are applying for, and are about to start your postgraduate studies. What else needs to be taken into consideration? Again, it depends on the educational institution you enrolled in, but there are some points that are common in all of them. These are as follows:
* Residency- this is the allowable length of time for you to finish your masters degree. Why do schools have to set that? It is actually meant to give you focus, to teach you how to manage your time and effort since a huge percentage of masters degree students are already working and you may be one of them. Some universities allow only five years for you to finish your course. (1) Others give you a six-year-allowance. (3) Still others allow up to seven years. (2)
* Academic Requirements- thesis, internship, and field-related accomplishments or breakthroughs are the most common requirements.
